Cousin of neo-classical experimentalist Olafur Arnalds, Olof operates in far humbler pastures than her cousin but is none the less startling for it. Focussing on the vocals (think an Icelandic Kate Bush) from the off, the mainly Icelandic (read unintelligable) lyrics force focus onto the voice as a melodic instrument in its own right with some stunning results.
Shuffling across deconstructed folk and jazz, Arnalds debut album is one that should - with any justice - see her gathering some of the growing spotlight on the family for herself very soon.
Beautiful.
